Helping Ujjwal Foundation Trust is a trust NGO for poor girl marriage, created by Mr Rahul Kumar, mainly to perform the “kanyadaan” of daughters whose families can’t afford a wedding. We try to support the girl and her family by bearing the expenses of the wedding and demolish dowry and suicide due to lack of funds for marriage. We believe that no girl should be treated as a burden just due to her marriage expense. We aim to provide all the funds required for a wedding and help such families and brides. According to us a kanyadaaner is a greater person than a person who performs kanyadaan because he is donating for the person to perform the most auspicious ceremony. We want to join hands with people (kanyadaaners) not only across the country but also globally, where they can donate and become a kanyadaaner for a bride. By doing so, they can even opt to attend the wedding of their respective kanya. We want to arrange the wedding of as many girls as possible, with the number of kanya increasing every year.
Various studies, as well as our experience, have shown that when we work towards women empowerment, the whole society benefits. But unfortunately in India, far from empowering women, most are denied even their basic rights like health, education of girls for women empowerment, employment and a respectable status in society. According to a recent UNDP Human Development Report, India has a dangerously imbalanced sex ratio, the chief reason being rampant female infanticide and sex-selective abortions. Helping Ujjwal Foundation Trust, meaning self-respect in English, was initiated in 2005 to address these challenges through a simple yet effective approach. The programme is specifically aimed at realization of both individual and collective self-esteem and inner strength for marginalised and socially excluded women and adolescent girls through innovative community practices. A tailor-made strategy called the '4 S Model' has been developed under Helping Ujjwal Foundation Trust, the women empowerment programme. The ‘4 S Model’ is an acronym for four novel approaches, namely Seeking Healthcare as a Behaviour, Support for Education, Supporters through Male Involvement, and Sustaining the Change in Communities. The programme identifies adolescent girls and women from the community and develops them into Change Agents, who in turn actively contribute to the community mobilization process. So far, Helping Ujjwal Foundation Trust through women's education empowerment program and health programmes has successfully made a difference to the lives of over 2,000 women and girl children.
India ranks 122nd of 138 nations on gender equality. In some rural areas, more than fifty percent of girls are married before age fifteen. Female literacy is still considerably lower than male literacy. However, women make the best poverty fighters. Women use their earnings not only to feed their families, but to improve their families’ quality of life as well as fund their children’s education, giving the next generation a much better chance to live out of poverty. Economically disadvantaged women in villages and urban slums of Kurnool District lack education and employable skills; they migrate to cities in search of low-skill jobs or work as domestic help, agricultural laborers, and as maids in schools, hospitals, shops and establishments. HELPING UJJWAL FOUNDATION TRUST has conducted baseline survey to identify skills needed in the job-market and has developed training programs for women to help them become micro entrepreneurs or get better paying jobs
We understand that the future of the country is with the educated population and education is a human right, with this objective we are continuously trying to provide basic education to the children from underprivileged families. We tie up with different education institutions to provide free education to the children of underprivileged families so they can earn their livelihood. We also implement the wisdom of traditional knowledge to contemporary problems via sharing of knowledge between highly educated and poorest of poor in our country. In this regard we organize education training for local community with the help of our volunteers and partner institutions.
